Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing, registering for, or using LabNotes.ai (the “Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. If you access LabNotes.ai through an educational institution, your institution may have additional terms that take precedence where they conflict with these Terms.

2. Description of Service

LabNotes.ai is an AI-powered STEM education platform that provides:

• Interactive AI-guided tutoring
• Personalized learning support without direct answers
• Progress tracking and performance analytics
• Integration with participating educational institutions

The Service is currently in prototype and early access stage.

3. Eligibility

To use LabNotes.ai, you must be at least 18 years of age OR be enrolled at a participating educational institution that has authorized your use.

4. Account Responsibilities

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials, preventing unauthorized access, and keeping your information accurate. Your account is non-transferable.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree to use LabNotes.ai only for legitimate educational purposes. Prohibited uses include:

• Using the AI to generate direct answers to assignments or exams
• Submitting AI responses as your own work
• Attempting prompt injection or other techniques to bypass AI safeguards
• Reverse-engineering the AI model or underlying systems
• Sharing accounts or creating multiple accounts
• Posting offensive, abusive, or harassing content
• Using the Service for any illegal purpose

Violations may result in warnings, account suspension, permanent termination, or referral to your institution.

AI responses are designed to guide your learning, not provide definitive answers. You acknowledge that:

• AI responses may contain errors or incomplete information
• The AI is a learning tool, not a substitute for qualified educators
• You should verify important information against authoritative sources
• LabNotes.ai is not designed to generate exam answers, complete homework, or provide professional advice

8. Institutional Agreements

If you access LabNotes.ai through an institution, your institution has authority over your account and may:

• Access your usage data
• Modify your access
• Terminate your account when enrollment ends

Institutional data agreements supersede these Terms where applicable.

9. Privacy

Your use is governed by our Privacy Policy. Key principles: we do not sell your data, we comply with FERPA, your data is encrypted, and research use is anonymized and optional.

10. Service Availability

LabNotes.ai is in prototype and early access stage and is provided “as is” without guarantee of continuous availability. Features may change, be added, or removed. We will provide at least 48 hours notice for planned maintenance and 30 days notice if discontinuing the Service.

11. Limitation of Liability

LABNOTES.AI IS PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LABNOTES LLC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, OR DATA.

LabNotes.ai is an educational supplement, not a substitute for classroom instruction.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless LabNotes LLC, its founders, officers, employees, and agents from claims arising from your violation of these Terms, misuse of the Service, or academic misconduct.

13. Termination

You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account for:

• Terms violations
• Institutional request
• Provision of false information

Upon termination, your data is handled per the Privacy Policy (typically deleted within 90 days).

14. Changes to These Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated via email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Montana. Legal proceedings shall be brought in the courts of Montana. Before pursuing legal action, contact hello@labnotes.ai and allow 30 days for resolution.

16. General Provisions

• If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect
• These Terms plus the Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement
• Our failure to enforce any provision does not waive that right
• Any legal notices should be sent to hello@labnotes.ai
